After living in diverse locales ranging from urban centres to a remote Northern Ontario community, I now call Muskoka home. I have worked as a Registered Psychotherapist in Huntsville in both private practice and community based mental health. As an Advanced Jungian Analyst Candidate with the Ontario Association of Jungian Analysts, I specialize in assisting clients with gaining deeper self-insight, trauma and grief processing, anxiety and depression symptom management, and relationship challenges. As a trained Spiritual Director, I welcome the opportunity to integrate spiritual exploration and development into my sessions with clients.
Prior to embarking on my career as a Psychotherapist, I spent 10 years working as a Respiratory Therapist in community and trauma-center hospitals. My previous experience as a Respiratory Therapist illuminated for me the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit in our healing journey. My hope is to help my clients gain self-knowledge, self-compassion, and strategies to assist them in creating the life they were born to live.
When I am not working you will find me spending time with my family, walking my dog, travelling, or savouring a good book with a steaming cup of coffee.
In my experience, the antidote to pain and suffering is compassion. Often it is far easier to offer compassion to others than it is to ourselves. Learning to offer our pain and suffering compassion and understanding is a foundational step in personal growth, freedom, and healing.
With pain often comes shame, guilt, anger, anxiety, and sadness. Difficult thoughts and feelings can be very challenging to turn towards. Unfortunately, avoidance tends to perpetuate our struggles.Creating an attitude of openness to our experiences allows us to create a space to explore, gain insight, and cultivate self-mastery.
Humans are creatures of habit! We do the same things over and over again and expect different results. This is where playfulness and creativity come in. If we are looking for a different outcome than the one we are getting, then let's try something new and see what happens. If we don't like the result, we can try again, attempt something altogether different, or return to what we were doing before. The possibilities are endless.
Jungian Psychoanalysis is a form of therapy that is focused on assisting individuals on their unique path to wholeness. Therapy focuses on the use of dreams, bodily sensations/symptoms, art, myths, and fantasies as a means to understand the influence of the unconscious in our our lives and to integrate this information into our conscious personality to bring a more balanced way of living.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps us develop the ability to understand the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy utilizes practical skills and behavioural modification for the symptom relief of depression, anxiety, insomnia, perfectionism, and much more.
Somatic therapy is a body-centred therapy that looks at the connection between the mind and body in healing stuck energy in our bodies. Utilizing the breath, imagination, and physical movements clients can explore how to move into, soften, and release energy experienced as sensations in the body.
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a structured therapy that has been developed to assist individuals to recover from PTSD. The primary focus of treatment is to help clients understand and reconceptualize their traumatic events in a way that reduces the ongoing negative effects in their current life.
